Project Summary

MoDOT is implementing a project to address the aging pavement, signals and pedestrian facilities to comply with the department's ADA Transition Plan. The perimeter for this project runs from Brotherton Lane to Natural Bridge Road (Route 115) on New Florissant Road (Route N).

Project Corridor Details

The project will provide improvements on the Florissant Road (Route N) corridor from south of Brotherton Lane to Natural Bridge Road (Route 115).

What is the problem?

The Missouri Department of Transportation is implementing a project to address the aging pavement, traffic signals, and sidewalks along Florissant Road in St. Louis County.

What is the solution?

This project will provide pavement improvement on the corridor that will include:

  • Pavement resurfacing and new pavement markings along the corridor.
  • Upgrading the existing sidewalks and curb ramps to meet ADA requirements.
  • Replacing several existing entrances to improve pedestrian walking paths to meet ADA requirements.
  • Replacing traffic signals and lighting at Cool Valley and Bermuda Drive along with pedestrian signals and crosswalks.
  • Constructing new sidewalk along New Florissant Road between Normandy Trace Drive and Marietta Drive. In order to provide a sidewalk under the Railroad Bridge, southbound Florissant Road will be reduced to one-lane traffic in each direction between Arnold B. Grobman Drive and Waco Ave.
  • Adding a RRFB (Rapid Flashing Beacon) with a refuge island for pedestrians’ safety north of Arnold Grobman Drive.
  • A road diet from Bermuda to Natural Bridge Road consisting of one-lane traffic in each direction and a center turning lane.

When will construction begin?

Construction will begin in summer 2024.

What are the impacts from the project?

Most of the resurfacing work will take place overnight, with up to two lanes closed. Daytime work will include lane closures and some traffic shifts. Many of the entrances to businesses or subdivisions will be rebuilt in this project; however, residents, customers and businesses will have access at all times during construction.
