Why is the Brush Creek Bridge being replaced?

The Cooper County Route HH Brush Creek Bridge west of Pilot Grove was built in 1957 and is in poor condition. The 67-year-old pony truss bridge has outlived its useful life and is in need of replacement, in order to best serve the approximately 175 vehicles that use it each day. At only 20-feet wide, with significant deterioration, the bridge is currently striped for one-lane traffic. The new bridge will be wider, safer, and allow for two lanes of traffic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is MoDOT replacing the bridge?

Built in 1957, the 67-year-old bridge is in poor condition, is striped to one lane, and has deteriorated to the point it needs replaced with a wider, up-to-date bridge.

How will the construction affect traffic?

The bridge will be closed to all traffic up to 70 calendar days during construction. Beginning Feb. 19, 2024, motorists will need to plan an alternate route.

Why is MoDOT closing the road during construction?

MoDOT strives to be a good steward of taxpayer money. By closing the roadway at the Brush Creek Bridge, the contractor will be able to work more efficiently within a shorter construction period, saving taxpayer dollars and reducing the time construction will affect motorists.
