MoDOT has conducted a railroad crossings safety study along Route 60 between Republic and Marionville. A series of listening sessions were held in Republic, Marionville and Billings to get feedback about the railroad crossings in 2017 . A final report was made outlining crossing improvements along the corridor. The study identified several safety needs along the rail corridor. MoDOT applied for and has received a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) grant to fund, in part, the proposed improvements. The $2.6 million dollar grant will fund part of the proposed improvements worth $5.5 million. MoDOT is currently working with the FRA and Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad to determine a project schedule. More public meetings will be scheduled in summer/fall 2019 to announce the schedule and gather additional input.
