Public Meeting Scheduled for Improvements to Route W in Cape Girardeau County

SIKESTON-To help the public understand more about upcoming improvements to Route W in Cape Girardeau County, MoDOT will hold a public meeting.  The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Osage Community Center, 1625 N. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The meeting will have an open-house format, so visitors can stop by to talk one-on-one with a member of the project team anytime between 4 and 6 p.m.  No formal presentation will be given.

Improvements to Route W will extend from Lexington Ave. to the new LaSalle Ave. The project will include resurfacing, shoulder improvements, adding centerline and edge line rumble strips, improving intersections at County Road 620 and Perryville Road, and improving drainage structures.

Improving the drainage structures will consist of replacing the box culvert located three-tenths a mile south of County Road 618 and extending the box culvert located near the County Road 620 intersection on Cape Lacroix Creek.  Extending this culvert will allow the roadway to be widened.

As the culvert near County Road 618 is being replaced, it will be necessary to close the road for approximately two weeks.  As work is performed to extend the culvert near County Road 620, the road will be closed for approximately two weeks.  The closures will not occur at the same time.
