NEWS RELEASES

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why is the signal at W. Clinton Avenue being removed?

Following a comprehensive safety analysis and a review of historical crash patterns, it was recommended that the existing signal be removed and the intersection converted to a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) configuration. This change will enable free-flowing traffic along US 60 while still preserving full access to W. Clinton Avenue and Enterprise Drive.

Can two interchanges be built, one at each side of the city?

Currently, available funding supports only one interchange, which has been prioritized at Route C/K. The proposed intersection improvements at Clinton Avenue do not limit the feasibility of a future interchange near the west end of the city. Building upon past planning efforts, MoDOT and Webster County continue to evaluate additional improvements along the US 60 corridor, with a focus on enhancing both safety and access.

Why is the interchange not located in the center of town near Skyline Road?

Following a comprehensive study, the growth patterns of the City of Seymour clearly demonstrated the need to align US 60 interchange improvements with areas experiencing the most significant development. This location was further endorsed during stakeholder meetings with local and regional officials.

How will the Amish be able to maneuver the proposed improvements?

Yes, the proposed improvements are designed to accommodate Amish travel. MoDOT has conducted multiple stakeholder meetings with the Amish community to identify enhancements that improve safety and comfort for agricultural horses and buggies. These include widened shoulders along US 60 and modified geometrics at roundabout exits to support smoother maneuvering. Additionally, the Enterprise Drive extension will enhance accessibility for the Amish community, helping to reduce their reliance on US 60 for travel within Seymour.

Will the improvements accommodate large trucks?

Yes, the roundabouts are specifically designed to accommodate Oversized and Overweight (OSOW) truck traffic. This is achieved through widened lanes and truck aprons that allow large vehicles to safely maneuver through both the proposed roundabout and J-Turn facilities. Additionally, all intersections have been evaluated for turning movements, and widened shoulders are included in the design to further support truck navigation.

How will this project impact drainage in the area?

A significant drainage way currently exists near the proposed interchange improvements. MoDOT engineers and consultants have conducted extensive hydraulic analyses to facilitate proper drainage, through box culverts and new defined ditch channels. To mitigate runoff from additional impervious surfaces, detention basins will be constructed. These basins are designed to offset the increased flow, resulting in a net-zero impact on overall drainage from the project.

The comment form for the 2025 Public Hearing will be available from Sept 15 until October 13.
