Project Timeline
MoDOT engineers designed a new structure to replace the bridge over Davis Creek on the east edge of Mound City.
As part of the design process, a public meeting was held to gather input from the public about the proposed design and construction period and to address any concerns members of the public may have had about the project.
Acquisition of additional property or easements needed to complete the project.
The project was part of the October 2017 letting.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission reviewed bids and awarded the bid at their November meeting to Chester Bross Construction Company for $547,631.
The contractor had the authority to begin the work as early as Dec. 4, 2017.
The contractor closed the bridge to all traffic the morning of March 12, 2018. By contract, the contractor had 90 days to complete the work and reopen the bridge.
The contractor opened the new bridge to traffic on May 24, 2018
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why is MoDOT closing the road during construction?
A. Closing the bridge saves taxpayer money by allowing the contractor to work more efficiently. This will result in a shorter overall construction period.
Q. How long will the road be closed?
A. Up to three months is allowed by contract.
Q. What is the detour?
A. There is no planned, signed detour. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route.
Q. Why not build a bypass?
A. Based on the cost/benefit ration, building a bypass would not be a prudent use of taxpayer funds. A bypass also could have negative impacts and disruption to private property.
Q. Will you have to buy any right of way?
A. Yes
Q. When will the project begin?
A. The contractor plans to close the orad to all traffic March 12, 2018.
