Project Updates

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is the bridge going to be closed during the construction of the replacement?

Design plans place the replacement bridge parallel to the current structure.  After the replacement bridge is constructed, a closure of up to 36 hours will be required to tie the new roadway and replacement bridge into the existing roadway.

Will Shadow Rock Park be closed during construction?

There are no plans to close Shadow Rock Park during construction; however, traffic may be temporarily prohibited from using or traveling under either the existing or replacement bridges at certain times to ensure safety.

Will any blasting occur?

At this time, MoDOT is not planning any blasting.  Some of the rock bluff on the west end of the bridge will need to be removed, but blasting will not be approved as a method of rock removal.

How long will this bridge replacement take?

The contractor will have two years to complete the work for the replacement bridge and removal of the existing bridge.

Will Swan Creek be closed to water traffic?

MoDOT does not anticipate fully closing the waterway. However, when bridge spans are set, temporary closures may be required beneath either the existing or new bridge to ensure the safety of anyone passing underneath. Any waterway closure will be clearly marked with buoys placed by the contractor.
