Purpose and Need
The U.S. Route 160 bridge over North Fork Spring River in Barton County was built in 1928 and is in deteriorating condition in need of frequent maintenance.
Project Information
The contractor will demolish the current bridge and rebuild it with a bridge that is 117 feet longer and 8 feet wider than the current bridge. In addition, the contractor will add permanent pavement marking, guardrail and rumble strips to the ends of the new bridge.

Why is this bridge being replaced?
The U.S. Route 160 bridge over North Fork Spring River was built in 1928 and is in deteriorating condition in need of frequent maintenance.
Will access to the entrances, county roads and state routes near the bridge be restricted during construction?
No. The bridge itself will be closed for up to five (5) months during construction, however the entrances, county roads, and state routes on either ends of the bridge will remain open throughout the duration of the project.
How will residents, farm equipment, tourists and commercial traffic get around the closure?
A detour will be signed over Route 126 and Interstate 49. Detour signs and changeable message boards will direct traffic onto the detour.
