Project Summary

The Crawford County Route N bridge over Meramec River, southeast of Bourbon, is slated for deck replacement in 2027. Built in 1972, the supporting structures are in good condition, but the deck is in need of replacement. The new bridge deck will be 22-feet-wide, the same width as the existing structure.

Construction of a new bridge deck will require a full roadway closure. A signed detour will direct motorists to use Route J, Route C, Interstate 44, and Missouri Route 185.

Public Meeting

An in-person public meeting will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Bourbon Area Community Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Members of the project team will be on hand to provide information and answer questions from the community. There will be no formal presentation, so members of the public can come and go as they please during the advertised hours. By participating and commenting, the public can help MoDOT determine what best serves the needs of the roughly 1,100 motorists who use the bridge on an average day while being responsible stewards of available funding.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is MoDOT replacing the bridge deck?

Built in 1972, the supporting structures are in good condition, but the deck is in need of replacement.

How will this bridge deck work affect traffic?

Replacing the bridge deck will require a full roadway closure. A signed detour will direct motorists to use Route J, Route C, Interstate 44, and Missouri Route 185.

Why not build a bypass?

MoDOT strives to be good stewards of the taxpayer funds entrusted to us. Due to the cost, right of way acquisition and time required, building a bypass would not be a prudent use of these funds.

What is the expected completion date for this project?

At this time, the new bridge deck is expected to be completed and open to traffic by Dec. 1, 2027.
