Project Summary
The Phelps County Route BB bridge in Rolla over Oak Street, Olive Street, and BNSF Railway, was built in 1974. While the supporting structures are in good condition, the bridge deck - or driving surface - is in need of repairs. The project will include repairing the bridge deck as well as adding new approach pavement and pavement markings.
Project Progress
The Missouri Department of Transportation and its consultant have designed new improvements to extend the functional life of the bridge.
The estimated total cost, including engineering and construction, is $3.2 million. This cost may change.
This project was part of MoDOT's January 2026 letting when contractors submitted competitive bids. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract as part of their February 2026 meeting. The $1,676,851 contract was awarded to Concrete Strategies, LLC.
The notice to proceed is March 6, 2026, but the exact schedule of work and planned start date are not yet known. Work is expected to take 104 days, subject to change.
The Route BB bridge is expected to remain open, with construction staged to only close half of the bridge at a time. For motorists' safety while work is occurring overhead, Oak Street and Olive Street below the bridge will be closed during construction, with traffic directed to use surrounding local roadways.
At this time, the project is expected to be completed by Dec. 1, 2026.
