What is the problem?
Traffic has increased in this area of St. Charles County as residential growth continues. As a result, drivers experience increasing congestion at the intersection of Route 94 at Highway B.
What is the proposed solution?
MoDOT proposes to construct:
- Northbound 94 left turn lane to Highway B
- Southbound 94 right turn lane to Highway B
- A new traffic signal at the 94/B intersection
How will the work be completed?
There will be Temporary Traffic Barrier used to build the widening portion for each stage except Stage 2B and Stage 3A.
-
Stage 1 will build the east side of Route 94 with no lane direction closures on Route 94. There will be temporary striping used to shift Route 94 traffic more to the west side. Route B will stay as is.
-
Stage 2A will use the new widening on Route 94 and use temporary striping to move traffic more to the east on Route 94 while the Northwest quadrant of Route 94 and Route B is being built.
-
Stage 2A will keep traffic in two directions on Route 94 and use temporary signals while Route B will use a Temporary Signal about 200 feet up from the intersection to allow one way traffic on Route B.
-
Stage 2B will be using a good portion of the newly widened Route 94 with lane shift on southbound Route 94 to westbound Route B. Temporary signals will still be used on Route 94 and Route B. There will be one-way traffic at a time through Route B. The North side of Route B will be widened.
-
Stage 3A will be a flip flop of Stage 2B for Route B widening. So, the south side of Route B will be widened. Temporary traffic signals will still be used along with one-way traffic on Route B.
- Stage 3B will have Route B traffic open in both directions but slightly moved northward. Temporary traffic barrier will be used at the southwest quadrant of Route B and Route 94 for widening. Route 94 will be widened on the west side (Southbound). New signals will be operational.
What could the intersection look like?
