Project overview
The Missouri Route 89 bridge over Indian Creek, northeast of Linn, is slated for replacement in 2027. Built in 1933, the bridge is in poor condition, showing signs that it has reached the end of its useful life, and is in need of replacement.
Current construction plans call for closing Route 89 with a signed detour while crews build a new bridge.
PUBLIC MEETING
An open-house style in-person public meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the MoDOT Maintenance Facility in Linn from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Members of the project team will be on hand to provide information, receive direct feedback on preliminary plans for the new bridge, and answer questions from the community. There will be no formal presentation, so members of the public can come and go as they please. By participating and commenting, the public can help MoDOT determine what best serves the needs of the roughly 800 motorists who use the bridge on an average day, while being responsible stewards of available funding.

PROJECT PROGRESS
The Missouri Department of Transportation is designing a new bridge on Route 89 over Indian Creek. The new structure will provide wider driving lanes and will feature new barriers, guardrail, and approach pavement.
This project is expected to require new right-of-way acquisition.
The estimated total cost (including right-of-way, engineering, and construction) for this project is $1.2 million. This cost may change.
During the four-week comment period running June 24 – July 21, 2026, the community and interested parties will have multiple avenues to learn about, ask questions, and submit input regarding the planned work and associated traffic impacts. By participating and commenting, the public can help MoDOT determine what best serves the needs of the roughly 800 motorists who use the bridge on an average day, while being responsible stewards of available funding.

The project is currently scheduled for MoDOT's January 2027 letting, when contractors may submit competitive bids. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission may award the contract as part of its February 2027 meeting and, if the contract is awarded, a notice to proceed date will also be given. That is the earliest date the contractor may begin work.
Construction is expected to take place in 2027.
Current construction plans call for closing Route 89 at Indian Creek with a signed detour via U.S. Route 50 and Missouri Route 100. The detour is 40 miles from one side of the bridge to the other.
At this time, the new bridge is expected to be completed by Dec. 1, 2027.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is MoDOT replacing the bridge?
Originally built in 1933, the 93-year-old bridge is in poor condition, showing signs that it has reached the end of its useful life, and is in need of replacement.
How will this bridge work affect traffic?
Current construction plans call for closing Route 89 at Indian Creek with a signed detour via U.S. Route 50 and Missouri Route 100. The detour is 40 miles from one side of the bridge to the other.
Why not build a bypass?
Due to the cost, location of the bridge at the bottom of a hill and at the end of a curve, right of way acquisition, and time required, building a bypass would not be a prudent use of these funds. As such, the preferred plan is to close the bridge during construction.
