Damage and Bridge Closure

Significant rainfall in a short time period caused flash flooding in the Crawford County area in early July. On July 10, the Missouri Department of Transportation assessed the bridge over Dry Creek on Missouri Route 49. Due to the amount of damage, the bridge was determined to be unsuitable for traffic and was closed until repairs could be made.

Repair work

Local crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to begin repairs as early as the week of July 27. Included in the work will be repairs to the bridge approach (the pavement adjacent to the end of the bridge) and the supporting structure at the end of the bridge. Both are undermined, missing in places and unsafe for vehicles. Guardrail repair and/or replacement will also be required.
