MoDOT is designing a project to replace the Tarkio River Bridge and update guardrail and pavement marking. The bridge was built in 1934 and carries approximately 304 vehicles per day.

MoDOT is designing a project to replace the bridge. The new bridge will be raised by a foot and widened to 26 feet.

Public Input Opportunity
MoDOT will offer three opportunities to receive community feedback regarding the bridge replacement project.

1. A public open house meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 12 from 4-6 p.m. at the Craig R-III School District (402 N Ward St, Craig, MO 64437) to discuss the project. There will be no formal presentation.

2. View the information on this webpage and utilize the form at the bottom of the page to submit your comments and/or sign up for project-specific updates.

Contractor Letting and Award

Contractors may submit competitive bids during MoDOT's scheduled lettings. This project is scheduled to be included in the January 2027 letting. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission will consider all submitted bids at its scheduled monthly meeting in February 2027. If the lowest submitted bid meets all necessary criteria, the MHTC may award contracts at that time.

A: Yes, the bridge will be closed during construction. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route.

Q: Will this project require any right of way?

A: MoDOT will work directly with property owners and the levee district to obtain right of way and temporary easements needed to construct the new bridge.
