Project Summary
The Missouri Department of Transportation will be working on pavement resurfacing, guardrail upgrades, signage and pavement treatment on Interstate 44 from Crawford County Line to 0.5 miles from east of the Route 30 overpass in St. Clair. In combination with this project, the entrance and exit ramps from the westbound I-44 weigh scale site will be reconstructed. The westbound and eastbound I-44 St. Clair Rest Area will be rebuilt as well.
The closure dates for the eastbound/westbound I-44 Clair Rest Area have yet to be determined.
Project Milestones
What is happening?
The Missouri Department of Transportation will investigate the standard lengths for semi-trucks to safely enter and exit onto the westbound I-44 weigh scales. The westbound and eastbound rest areas, including the restrooms, will be rehabilitated.

This portion of the project starts with working on the ramps connected to the westbound I-44 St. Clair weigh scales. After the ramp work is completed, MoDOT will reopen the new westbound scales building and permanently close the eastbound scales building. The eastbound scale building will be converted into a semi-truck parking lot. The goal of the parking lot is to help transition more semi-trucks safely onto the parking lot and rest area and limit trucks from parking on the I-44 ramps.
The new eastbound parking lot will be able to hold approximately 20-25 semi-trucks.
Will this project cause traffic delays?
MoDOT does anticipate closing various single lanes on NOR I-44 in St. Clair while crews work on the on and off ramps to the weigh scale sites.
Eastbound I-44 St. Clair rest area
The Missouri Department of Transportation will revamp the entire parking lot, complete pavement resurfacing, ADA upgrades, lighting and guardrail upgrades, signage, and reconstruct the on and on ramps to the rest area. The bathrooms will also be upgraded to ADA standards.
Westbound I-44 St. Clair rest area
The Missouri Department of Transportation will revamp the westbound rest area by completing pavement resurfacing, signage and ADA upgrades. Restrooms will be upgraded to ADA standards.
