Project Updates

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why is this project needed?

Bridge expansion joints and bearings are designed to accommodate the movement that occurs as the structure expands and contracts with temperature changes. The existing joints and bearings show signs of deterioration and will be replaced with modern components. This preventive maintenance is essential to avoid frequent repairs and maximize the lifespan of the flyover bridge.

Will the flyover bridge be CLOSED?

The bridge will remain open for the majority of the rehabilitation.  A short-term full closure of the bridge will be required to complete expansion joint repairs. The exact dates will be announced to the public at least two weeks in advance, and a detour will be provided.

What can I expect during construction?

The bridge will remain open for the majority of the rehabilitation. Driving lanes will be shifted from side to side as the contractor works on different sections of the bridge. Lane and shoulder widths may be temporarily narrowed. A short-term full closure of the bridge will be required to complete expansion joint repairs. Temporary shoulder closures and reduced lane widths will also occur on Route 65, I-44, the westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 and eastbound I-44-to-northbound Route 65 loop ramps.

Will there be signed detours?

During the short-term bridge closure, signed detours will be in place. Details and a map of the detour route are provided above.
