ABOUT THE PROJECT

Locations:

  • Interstate 29 southbound to Interstate 35 northbound flyover bridge.
  • I-29/I-35 bridges over Parvin Road.
  • Conceptual study which includes potential future design for the I-29/35 interchange.

Details:

  • MoDOT will replace the I-29 SB to I-35 NB flyover bridge and the I-35/29 bridges over Parvin Road. The flyover bridge and bridges have reached the end of their service lives and while safe to travel on, the flyover bridge and bridges need to be replaced.
  • MoDOT is working to improve the I-29/I-35 interchange in Clay County by completing a conceptual study. The alternatives developed during this study will address roadway and bridge conditions, safety, congestion and access issues, ADA and pedestrian needs in the area.
  • The current phase of the study involves further development and more detailed analysis of alternatives developed during the previous Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study - including preliminary, surveying, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance - to advance solutions.

History Of the Project:

  • In 2019, the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce identified the transportation corridor of I-35 and U.S. 169 as a major concern as well as a limitation to the movement of people, goods and services through the region.
  • In 2020, MoDOT successfully received a BUILD grant to study the corridor.
  • In 2022, MoDOT began the I-29, viable alternatives for long-term solutions.
  • In 2025, MoDOT initiated the current study, which focuses on the I-29/I-35 interchange and its adjacent interchanges, developing and advancing concepts from the PEL to reasonable alternatives to advance into a design phase.
