Paint the Plow | Missouri Department of Transportation

MoDOT sponsors Paint the Plow as a way to cultivate public awareness and promote winter driving safety. This contest encourages high school students in MoDOT's Northwest District's 20 counties* to promote winter driving safety by developing creative, original artwork on a snowplow that represents their individual school and is based on the program theme for the year. Designs will have the opportunity to be visible during winter snow removal on various state-maintained roadways in the school district to enhance public awareness.

MoDOT's 2024-25 Paint the Plow theme is:

"Ice and Snow - Take it Slow."

Project Timeline

Schools invited to participate - late April 2024.
Design submissions due - Sept. 13, 2024.
Plows delivered to participating schools with approved designs - by Sept. 27, 2024.
Painted plows collected from participating schools - by mid-October 2024.
Judges' Pick and Fan Favorite honors determined - by Oct. 31, 2024.
Winners announced - by Nov. 8, 2024.

Judging & Voting

The "Judges' Pick" honor is determined by MoDOT personnel and is based on creativity and ability to incorporate the designated safety message and theme.
Members of the public are invited to vote for the "Fan Favorite" winner via social media.

*Paint the Plow is currently being piloted in MoDOT's Northwest District's 20 counties (Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Linn, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Putnam, Sullivan and Worth) and may be expanded as an annual tradition into other areas of the state.
