MoDOT to shift I-44 lanes near Shrewsbury this weekend

ST. LOUIS – Drivers on I-44 near Shrewsbury will shift back into the eastbound lanes this weekend, as crews finish work on the new eastbound interstate bridge over the BNSF railroad.

Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, crews will shift traffic currently on the westbound bridge back to the eastbound side so crews can make needed repairs to the westbound bridge. Drivers can expect various lane closures on both eastbound and westbound I-44 as crews are moving traffic. The shift is expected to be complete noon, Saturday, April 27.

After the traffic shift, crews will start work to repair the cracks in the westbound bridge, and will retrofit the bridge to repair the issue with the westbound bridge.

Three eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes, as is currently on the westbound bridge, will shift to the eastbound bridge.

Work on the westbound bridge is expected to continue until mid-July, when all interstate lanes, and the ramp from Shrewsbury to eastbound I-44, will reopen. After the lanes reopen, crews have some resurfacing work in the area, and have work under the bridge. That work is expected to continue until fall.
