Signal Work Planned

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A new signal cabinet and flashing yellow arrow signals are coming next week to two additional locations on the Belt Highway. Motorists in St. Joseph will now reap the benefits of flashing yellow arrow signals at the intersection of Northridge Drive, Loop 29 (Belt Highway) and the Shoppes at North Village and at the intersection of the Belt Highway and Karnes Road.

Changing the signal cabinet is part of routine signal maintenance. Our signal crew will take advantage of the work and change out the signal heads for Belt Highway traffic to flashing yellow arrows at both locations

To minimize the impact to drivers, MoDOT is planning to begin work after 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 and have all lanes of traffic back open by 6 a.m. on Friday, May 3.

At times throughout the night, certain traffic patterns including both through traffic and turning traffic may be restricted. It may also be necessary to turn off the power at the intersection for brief periods of time. Drivers are reminded that whenever a signal is dark or in flash mode, the intersection should be treated as a four-way stop. If needed, temporary stop signs may be used.

Flashing yellow arrows are not new to St. Joseph and are in use in many areas of Northwest Missouri and across the country. They have proven to increase safety and reduce crashes.
