CLOSING U.S. Route 61 at Alexandria Between Missouri and Iowa

HANNIBAL - Due to the return of rising Mississippi River levels, water has now crossed the road on U.S. Route 61 at Alexandria, forcing the Missouri Department of Transportation and Iowa Department of Transportation to close the highway between Keokuk and Alexandria.  There is currently water on the road and it continues to rise, so MoDOT is expecting to close the road within the hour, at approximate 1:30 p.m. today, Monday, April 29.  A signed detour is in place.

Updates for road conditions and road work are available on MoDOT's traveler map at www.modot.org.
