Interstate 29 to narrow this week at Nodaway River Bridge

Wide equipment should use an alternate route

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – To prepare for a repair to the southbound Interstate 29 bridge over the Nodaway River, the road will be narrowed to one lane beginning at the end of this week. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc., to replace one of the bridge joints on the bridge. Work will be done one lane at a time, narrowing traffic to one southbound lane. Bridge work is set to begin Monday, May 6.

As early as Thursday, May 2, the contractor will begin placing signs and concrete barriers to reduce southbound I-29 to one lane at the bridge, located between mile markers 67 and 66 near the border of Holt and Andrew counties. Northbound lanes should not be affected by the work.

As soon as concrete barriers are placed, there will be a 12-foot width restriction. Vehicles and loads wider than 12 feet, such as large agricultural equipment, will need to use an alternate route for the duration of the project.

Crews hope to have all work complete before Memorial Day. All schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.

MoDOT encourages all travelers to slow down, especially in work zones, as there will be large equipment and workers near the driving lanes. As always, please buckle up, eliminate distractions, pay attention and drive safely so everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
