Shoulder Work to Begin on Route 163 Monday

COLUMBIA, Mo – Work will resume on Missouri Route 163 in Columbia next week as crews begin adding extended shoulders to the roadway.

Weather permitting, work on the construction of new two-foot shoulders will begin on Monday, May 6. Crews will begin work at Tom Bass Road and work westbound to the Route K intersection. A new overlay will be completed along the same stretch of Route 163 later this summer.

One lane of traffic will remain open and flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone. The Missouri Department of Transportation appreciates the patience of travelers while this work is taking place.

This shoulder work is part of a larger project to improve the overall driving surface of this section of Route 163, along with several other routes in Boone and Callaway County. The project is scheduled to be complete in November.
