Two westbound I-255 lanes across the Mississippi reopening by Friday a.m. rush

ST. LOUIS – After receiving results from extensive laboratory tests, the Missouri Department of Transportation has determined that the westbound I-255 bridge across the Mississippi will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday morning.

Crews will reopen two of the lanes across the bridge by 5 a.m. Friday, May 17. The bridge can be repaired while under traffic, but all repairs are weather dependent. Any damp weather could impact the schedule. At this time, MoDOT anticipates being able to keep two lanes open westbound between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. weekdays, with at least one lane open the remainder of the time during repairs.

The bridge will be safe to travel upon when lanes open.

MoDOT will restrict oversize and overweight loads on the bridge until all needed repairs are complete.

Personnel and equipment from both MoDOT and IDOT as well as two private companies will continue to work on the bridge to make all needed repairs.

MoDOT continues to coordinate with various partners, including the Illinois Department of Transportation, emergency responders, and local construction teams to get the bridge open to traffic as soon as safely possible.
