UPDATE Resurfacing on Chariton County Routes 5 and 129 to begin Monday

MARCELINE, Mo. – A resurfacing project on Chariton County Route 5 followed by Route 129 was scheduled to begin earlier this month. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Capital Paving and Construction to resurface 19.506 miles of Route 5 from the southern Marceline city limits to U.S. Route 24. Crews will be widening shoulders and placing new asphalt surface through the area.

Due to delays, including weather, work on Route 5 is now expected to begin this coming Monday, May 20, and continue through the end of June. Crews then plan to begin resurfacing 7.24 miles of Route 129 from Route W to Route PP near Salisbury with a planned completion date in early July.

Motorists who regularly travel this area should be alert and watch for roadway signs and workers. A pilot car will be used to guide vehicles through the work zone. Crews will work during daylight hours, five days per week. Some work may occur on the weekends, if necessary to complete the project on schedule.

All work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled.

MoDOT encourages all travelers to slow down, especially in work zones, as there will be large equipment and workers near the driving lanes. As always, please buckle up, eliminate distractions, pay attention and drive safely so everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
