Closure planned for ramps in St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – As part of an ongoing series of bridge joint repairs at or near the intersection of U.S. Route 36, Interstate 229 and Route 759, another set of ramp closures will begin next week.

Crews from Capital Paving and Construction, LLC, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will close two ramps at the U.S. Route 36 and I-229 interchange beginning Thursday morning, June 13:

  • U.S. Route 36 westbound to I-229 southbound
  • I-229 northbound (Exit 4B) to U.S. Route 36 east and westbound

The work is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

More ramp closures in this project are planned, but the exact schedule has not been determined. Due to the continued closure of I-29 north of St. Joseph, the contractor had to adjust their schedule of work. The series of joint repairs is expected to continue through October 2019.

Updates are provided on a web page dedicated to the project: https://www.modot.org/buchanan-county-bridge-joint-repairs-us-route-36-and-i-229.

The project is weather dependent and the schedule is subject to change.

MoDOT encourages all motorists to slow down, buckle up, eliminate distractions and drive safely to ensure everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
