MoDOT to shift I-44 lanes near Shrewsbury today

ST. LOUIS – Drivers on westbound I-44 near Shrewsbury will shift back onto the westbound side today.

Crews are starting work to replace the center barrier on the interstate near the bridge over the BNSF railroad. Two westbound lanes will remain closed, as will one eastbound lane, so crews can complete the work on the barrier.

Starting just after 8 a.m, crews will shift the two westbound lanes back to the westbound side of the interstate. Both lanes should be shifted by noon. The eastbound lanes will remain as they are currently.

Work continues on the project to replace the interstate bridges over the BNSF railroad. All lanes on the project and the ramp from Shrewsbury to eastbound I-44 are projected to open soon. Once the lanes reopen, crews will still have some resurfacing work and work under the bridge that needs to be complete before the project is finished. Any lane closures for this work will be during off-peak traffic.

The project is expected to be complete by fall.
