MoDOT restores over 400 street lights along I-70 in Downtown Loop

JACKSON COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation is pleased to announce the restoration of more than 400 street lights along Interstate 70 in the downtown loop of Kansas City. MoDOT crews along with contractor, Capitol Electric have been working to fix the damaged lights the past 6 weeks.

The restoration also included areas along Interstate 35 and Parvin Road, Interstate 35 and North Brighton and Intestate 435 and Bannister Rd. The majority of the lights along Interstate 70 in the downtown loop were damaged due to copper thefts.

Back in March, MoDOT announced the restoration of nearly 900 streets lights along the 71 Highway corridor in Kansas City, MO, which were also damaged primarily by copper thefts.

In an effort to combat copper thefts, MoDOT crews have installed new overhead lines, theft deterrent access panels and used aluminum wire instead of copper wiring.

MoDOT ask that Kansas Citians remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving streets lights to the police immediately.
