UPDATE: Tarkio River Bridge on Route J near Fairfax

Flooding delays construction work

FAIRFAX, Mo. – Flooding has impacted nearly every aspect of life in Northwest Missouri since mid-March including construction projects. The Tarkio River Bridge on Route J, just west of Fairfax, is no exception. Contractors from Phillips Hardy, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, had to cease operations for about one month at the bridge due to high water. Now that the water has gone down a bit, crews were able to resume work last week. Originally scheduled to go through August, the closure has now been extended and could run through the end of September, or longer if waters rise again.

Visit the project’s webpage to learn more about the plans for the new bridge and to sign up for project-specific updates via email at https://www.modot.org/atchison-route-j-tarkio-river-bridge-replacement.
