The current bridge was built in 1960 and sees approximately 12.5 million vehicles, including 3.6 million trucks, cross per year.
The bridge is currently rated in poor condition. The planned rehabilitation project will include driving surface sealing, expansion joint replacement, partial painting and steel structure repairs. The work will extend the life of the bridge an additional 10 to 15 years, at a cost of approximately $18 million.
The project is scheduled to be put out for bids in early 2020, with construction beginning in early spring 2020.
