Safety improvements to Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City start next week

Single lane closures between S. Ten Mile Drive and east of Wildwood

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Improvements to reduce congestion, alleviate back-ups, and increase safety on Missouri Boulevard, west of the Missouri Route 179 junction, in Jefferson City, are set to begin next week. Motorists can expect varied traffic patterns, delays, and reduced speeds during the various stages of construction.

Starting May 18, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation expect to start widening Missouri Boulevard between S. Ten Mile Drive and east of Wildwood Drive. This will require one eastbound lane to be closed in short segments during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, through early NovemberCrews plan to begin near Planet Fitness and work their way east to S. Ten Mile Drive.

This project, expected to wrap up in early November, includes adding a center turn lane between S. Ten Mile Drive and east of Wildwood Drive, installing a signal at Missouri Boulevard and S. Ten Mile Drive, and extending the sidewalk on the south side of Missouri Boulevard from S. Ten Mile Drive to east of Wildwood Drive. These safety improvements are to create a more efficient and more reliable flow of traffic for the approximately 20,000 vehicles that travel this four-lane section of Missouri Boulevard each day.
