JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Upgrades to pedestrian facilities are scheduled to get underway next week in Columbia. Planned improvements include bringing sidewalks, curb ramps, and pavement approaches into compliance with the current standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Starting Monday, May 11, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to begin work on Boone County Route AC (Grindstone Parkway) between Missouri Route 163 (Providence Road) and U.S. Route 63. This will require temporary closures of pedestrian facilities, along with intermittent, short-term single-lane closures on Grindstone Parkway between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, as needed.
Additionally, the entrances to Sandman Lane and Hyde Park will close for an estimated 24 hours at yet-to-be-determined dates to reconstruct the right turn lanes. Motorists will need to use alternate routes during this work. Private entrances will be constructed half at a time, unless there are multiple entrances are available. In those cases, at least one entrance will remain open at all times
Crews anticipate starting on the south side of Grindstone Parkway near Providence Road, then working east before switching to the north side of the roadway. Improvements to the pedestrian facilities are expected to be completed by the end of July.
This work is to the west of the ongoing interchange improvements at U.S. Route 63 and Grindstone Parkway.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
At their March 2026 meeting, the Missouri Department of Transportation awarded a $1,427,564.64 contract to Watson Concrete Inc. to complete this project.
