MoDOT to close westbound I-70 at Route Z for short durations for rock excavation starting May 11

ST. CHARLES COUNTY – Crews with the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project will close all lanes of westbound Interstate 70 at Route Z for short 15-minute durations starting Monday, May 11 for rock excavation. All work is weather permitting.

The intermittent interstate closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays for a three-week period at the westbound I-70 and Route Z exit ramp. There will be 1-3 closure occurrences per day on I-70 and on Route Z.

This work is part of the widening of Interstate 70, adding a third lane in each direction between Warrenton and Wentzville.

The Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project covering the eastern portion of I-70 was awarded in November 2024. Construction is tentatively set to take place 2025-2028.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and signed into law by the governor, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
