Phelps County Route J over I-44 to close Monday for bridge work

Ramps to remain open

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Next week, contractors plan to close the bridge on Phelps County Route J over Interstate 44, approximately 10 miles southwest of Doolittle, for a bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge was built in 1966, and while the supporting structures are in good condition, the bridge deck has deteriorated and requires work to extend its useful life.

On Monday, April 6, the Route J bridge will close to all traffic. The on- and off-ramps at the interchange (Exit 169) are expected to remain open throughout construction, which is scheduled to continue into mid-June.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $3,948,366.99 contract for this multi-bridge project to Concrete Strategies, LLC. Work on the final bridge in the bundle, Route E at Exit 185, has not been scheduled. During its rehabilitation, the southbound lane is expected to remain open, but the northbound lane will close to allow for removal of the sidewalk.
