JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – To replace two bridges on Interstate 70 near mile marker 136.6, a portion of the north outer road will close at the Boone/Callaway County line beginning in mid-March. The closure is expected to be in place for 10 months, though January 2027.
On March 9, crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to close North Outer Road 70 at Cedar Creek, west of Callaway County Route J. There will be no designated detour, but signs located well ahead of the closure will alert motorists to use an alternate route.
This closure is necessary to replace the I-70 bridges over Cedar Creek. Crews will first replace the westbound structure, shifting westbound I-70 traffic onto the north outer road. Then crews will replace the eastbound bridge, shifting eastbound I-70 traffic onto the newly reconstructed westbound bridge. These bridge replacements are anticipated to be completed in January 2027.
All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change.

This $405 million fixed-cost contract includes new pavement on all three lanes of I-70 and will also make interchange improvements to the I-70 interchanges at U.S. Route 63 and U.S. Route 54.
Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and governor provides, $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
