Eastbound I-70 Traffic Shifts Planned February 16 Near Warrenton

Work Begins on Another Portion of the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville Project

HANNIBAL – Beginning February 16, traffic shifts are scheduled in Warren County on eastbound I-70, between Warrenton Blvd/Route MM (mile marker 191.4) and Missouri Route 47 (mile marker 194.2) in Warrenton, as work begins on another portion of the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville project. Construction crews, in coordination with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will perform striping operations and begin placing the temporary concrete barrier wall to accommodate the traffic shift. Eastbound I-70 will be reduced to one lane between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

I-70 Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the left and this traffic pattern is expected to remain through this Fall to allow for the full reconstruction of the permanent eastbound shoulder. While two lanes of traffic will be maintained during peak travel times, the eastbound lanes will be narrowed to 11 feet. Nightly lane closures between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. may occur throughout the project to support ongoing pavement work.

Initial work in this segment will occur west of MO 47.  All construction will be completed in carefully planned phases to minimize disruptions and maintain safe traffic flow during the bridge replacement at MO 47/I-70. Upon completion of the MO 47 bridge over I-70, work will advance to include EB I-70, east of MO 47.

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention in work zones, drive the posted work zone speed limit, and allow extra time for travel. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

This work is part of the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project covering the eastern portion of I-70. It was awarded in November 2024. Construction is tentatively set to take place 2025-2028.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and signed into law by the governor, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
