TRAFFIC ALERT: New Weight Restriction Placed on Route T/Fork of Pettis Creek Bridge in Barton Co.

Barton County – Signs indicating a weight limit of 15 tons for single unit vehicles and 25 tons for combination vehicles (including tractor trailers) have been installed for a bridge on Barton County Route T over Fork of Pettis Creek east of Lamar, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The new load posting came about during the department’s regular bridge inspection process to analyze load limitations, which have been updated per Federal Highway Administration guidance.

The bridge is rated as poor and was built in 1951. The new weight limit will be in place until the bridge is replaced. No timeframe has been set to replace the bridge at this time.

Previously, a weight limit restriction of trucks over 20 tons with a 15 mph speed limit was in place for this bridge.

Approximately 870 vehicles travel across the structure each day.
