RESCHEDULED: Phelps County Route HH to close daily for core drilling

Daily road closures now planned Feb. 23 - March 5, 2026

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Two weeks of daily road closures in preparation for a bridge improvement project on Phelps County Route HH (Carney Road) over Spring Creek have once again been postponed. Originally scheduled to begin Jan. 19, 2026, then Feb. 9, crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will now begin taking core samples at the bridge site just south of Road 29 on Feb. 23, 2026.  The road will be closed at the Spring Creek Bridge between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and crews expect to have all core sampling completed by March 5.

Message boards will be placed to give drivers ample notice to use an alternate route.

Core drilling allows for a detailed examination of the layers of roadway and supporting geology below the roadway surface. By studying the samples obtained in the cores, the project team can make more informed decisions on design and material elements for the bridge project.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

The Spring Creek Bridge improvement project is currently scheduled to go out for contractor bids in January 2027 with construction anticipated to be completed that same year. These dates could change.
