Project Update: Buchanan County Route 59 and Alabama Street

Route 59 and Alabama Street intersection improvement project in St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Aminos Brothers Co., Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, began Stage 1 of the intersection improvement project at U.S. Route 59 and Alabama Street (Missouri Route 752 and Buchanan County Route U) on April 29, 2025. Stage 1 was expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2025, but due to several utility, contractor schedule and weather delays it is now planned to be completed by March 2026.

Crews have realigned the roadway of Alabama Street east of Route 59 and are currently paving the roadway transitions and temporary access to businesses in the area. Temporary signage and traffic markings will also be added on Route 59 before reopening the roadway.

Once complete, crews will move to Stage 2 and Stage 3. Details for Stages 2 & 3 will be shared ahead of the staging change.

Crews are scheduled to work Monday-Friday during daylight hours.
