Upcoming Pavement Resurfacing, Turn Lane Project on Route 25 in Cape Girardeau County

SIKESTON—The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve approximately 11 miles of Route 25 in Cape Girardeau County.

The proposed project will include:

  • Resurfacing Route 25 from Route 61 at Jackson, Missouri to Route 77 at the Blomeyer roundabout.
    • Route 25 will be reduced to one lane with a pilot vehicle in place to guide traffic through the work zone as pavement improvements are underway.
  • Turn lanes will be constructed at Route Z and County Roads 325, 324 and 318.
    • As widening operations are underway, two-way traffic will be maintained except for brief intervals to allow for equipment movement.
  • Two bridges on Route 25 will also be improved. The bridges are located just south of County Road 214 and over Williams Creek between County Road 228 and County Road 214.
    • The bridge work will include removing the existing asphalt from the bridge deck, overlaying each bridge and replacing the bridge rails. Temporary signals will be used to reduce traffic to one lane, and county roads intersecting near each of the bridges will be closed during the bridge work.

Tentatively, the project will be let in May 2027. Construction could begin as early as June 2027, with completion anticipated in October 2027.

Maps, plans, and other information prepared by MoDOT will be available for public inspection and copying at MoDOT’s Sikeston District office, 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri.
