ST. CHARLES COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an informational open house style public meeting about preferred corridor alternatives for U.S. Route 61 in St. Charles County on Wednesday, December 17 from 4:30 -6:30 p.m.
The public meeting will be held at the Wentzville City Hall located at 1001 Schroder Creek Blvd., Wentzville, MO 63385. No formal presentations will be made during the open-house style meeting. Attendees can stop by at any time during the meeting to view the project details and speak with representatives from MoDOT.
Since fall 2023, MoDOT and traffic consultants have been conducting a Traffic Safety and Operations study on U.S. Route 61 from the I-64/I-70 interchange to the Lincoln County line. Engineers reviewed safety and crash data for the corridor, as well as current and projected traffic volumes based on anticipated developments in the area.
The study team confirmed and recommended the construction of a grade-separate interchange on Highway W at U.S. Route 61 which would replace the current at-grade median crossover that exists today. To provide local motorists full access to the Route 61/Route W interchange, the study recommended constructing/connecting outer roads along both sides of U.S. Route 61 between Dietrich Road and McHugh Road. These initial outer road segments would allow for the closure of the remaining at-grade median crossovers in St. Charles County. The current conceptual configuration for the proposed 61/W interchange is a “dogbone” style with roundabouts at each end of the future bridge, like the I-64/Prospect dogbone interchange in Lake St. Louis.
Approximately $40 million from the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) has been allocated for construction of corridor improvements starting in 2028. The purpose of this study was to determine needs along the corridor, what can be constructed with the funding currently allocated and estimate additional funding needed to complete additional improvements in the future. Those additional future corridor improvements are unfunded but will be prioritized on MoDOT’s High-Priority Unfunded Needs List utilizing the traditional planning process.
This meeting is accessible to individuals with disabilities. To request other special accommodations, please call 1-888-ASK-MoDOT or email jack.wang@modot.mo.gov.
