MoDOT to shift westbound lane of Interstate 70 Dec. 9 and 10

ST. CHARLES COUNTY – Crews with the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project will close the westbound right lane of Interstate 70 between Wentzville Parkway and the Foristell Weigh Station overnight Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.  All work is weather permitting.

On Tuesday, Dec. 9, crews will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to clean and prepare the roadway for striping.  Due to treatments on the interstate from recent winter weather events, the pavement needs to be cleaned with water prior to striping and requires warmer temperatures than upcoming overnight hours.

After the roadway is cleaned, crews will close the westbound right lane on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 9, to move the existing barrier wall and install new striping.  Once the work is completed Wednesday morning, Dec. 10, all westbound lanes will be reopened, and moved to the right, using the new pavement, which is the future shoulder pavement.

In addition, the westbound exit and entrance ramps to David Hoekel Parkway and the westbound Weigh Station at Foristell will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. to safely move the barrier wall.  This is part of phase 2 of adding a third lane in each direction on I-70. Westbound lanes will remain in this configuration through early summer 2026.

This work is part of the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project covering the eastern portion of I-70. It was awarded in November 2024. Construction is tentatively set to take place 2025-2028.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and signed into law by the governor, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
