Temporary Lane Reductions Scheduled on I-70 for Bridge Removal at Routes A/B Interchange

Short-Term Closure Between I-70 Ramps and Outer Roads - Expect Travel Delays December 14-16

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, motorists on Interstate 70 are advised of upcoming lane closures as crews work to remove the old Routes A/B bridge at the Truxton Exit 188 in Warren County. For the safety of motorists and the construction team, the following traffic impacts will be in place:

  • December 14-15: As early as 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 14 through 7 a.m. Monday, December 15, eastbound and westbound I-70 will be restricted to one lane at the Routes A/B interchange (Exit 188), between the off and on ramps.
  • December 15-16: Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, December 15 through 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, eastbound and westbound I-70 will be reduced to one lane and traffic will be rerouted over the on/off ramps at the Routes A/B interchange (Exit 188).
    • During this time, while temporary modified traffic patterns are in place, a 12-foot width restriction will be in effect for all traffic utilizing the detour on the ramps at this interchange. No turning movements will be allowed at the interchange ramp terminals, thereby eliminating access to the outer service roads and Routes A/B.
    • Additionally, a temporary closure of Routes A/B will be in place, between the I-70 ramps and the outer roads. Local traffic will need to utilize the neighboring interchanges at Routes E/Y (Exit 183) at Jonesburg or Route MM (Exit 191), west of Warrenton, to access I-70.
  • Mid-day December 15: All traffic around the interchange will be completely stopped for a brief period of up to 20 minutes, including I-70, Routes A and B, Northwest Service Road and West Veterans Memorial Parkway to facilitate bridge removal operations.

Delays on I-70 are expected during the temporary closures. To alleviate congestion, motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Contractor crews with Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. have worked to expedite the construction of the new bridge and interchange improvements, accomplishing this months ahead of schedule.
