JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is seeking community input on a proposed safety improvement project at the U.S. Route 63 and Route CC intersection, west of Sturgeon, in Boone County. Over the past five years, this intersection has seen 11 crashes, including one fatality and one serious injury.
To enhance safety, MoDOT plans to remove the existing crossover between the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. Route 63 and add acceleration and deceleration lanes at both Route CC and Roy Barnes Road. Eliminating the crossover will reduce the most serious types of crashes in this area – right-angle collisions that often occur when vehicles attempt to cross high-speed traffic. Adding acceleration and deceleration lanes will further improve safety by decreasing rear-end and sideswipe crashes, giving drivers more space to safely merge into or out of fast-moving traffic. The roadway is expected to remain open during construction, though motorists should anticipate lane closures throughout the project.
Public input, including comments, questions and community insight is an essential part of the planning and design process. MoDOT has multiple ways by which interested parties can provide feedback during the open comment period that runs Dec. 2 – 23, 2025:
- In person – An open-house style public meeting is being held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the Sturgeon City Hall, 303 E. Fire Station Drive, in Sturgeon. The project team will be on hand to answer questions, provide information, and receive input about the project. There will be no formal presentation, so attendees may come and go as they please at any time during advertised hours.
