Bridge work on U.S. Route 54 south of Jefferson City complete

Traffic restored to two lanes in each direction

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – U.S. Route 54 south of Jefferson City and all associated roads are open, and turning restrictions have been removed. Bridge work over the Neighorn Branch wrapped up Friday, Nov. 28, allowing traffic to return to normal.

U.S. Route 54 over the Neighorn Branch has been narrowed to one lane in each direction in a head-to-head configuration since late June. With the eastbound bridge replacement and westbound bridge deck replacement complete, construction crews, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, have restored travel to two lanes in each direction.

Intermittent single-lane closures are expected in the coming weeks to smooth out the pavement approaches. All work is weather-permitting, and subject to change.

MoDOT awarded a $2,849,278.23 contract to Don Schnieders Excavating Company, Inc. to complete the project.
