HANNIBAL – Signs indicating a weight limit of 15 tons for single-unit vehicles and 25 tons for combination vehicles will be installed within the next few weeks for a bridge on Pike County Route M over the North Branch of Indian Creek.
The bridge was built in 1949 and has an average daily traffic count of 450 vehicles. Previously, there were no posted load limits on this bridge. The new weight limit will be in place until the bridge is replaced. At this time, no timeframe has been set for replacing the bridge.
The new load posting was introduced during the department’s regular bridge inspection process, which analyzes load limitations and has been updated in accordance with Federal Highway Administration guidance. Be on the lookout for more load posting updates.
