TRAFFIC ALERT: Traffic Slowdowns/Stops on I-49 South of Joplin for Permit Work Nov. 9-14

Where: I-49 between Newton County Route V and Missouri Route 175 south of Joplin in Newton County

When: 7 a.m.-11 a.m., Sunday, November 9; 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, November 10-14

What: Utility crews installing utility line over I-49. Missouri State Highway Patrol will slow or stop traffic on I-49 for up to 15 minutes at a time.

Traffic Impacts:

  • On November 9, I-49 traffic slowed or stopped for up to 15 minutes between Newton County Route V and Missouri Route 175 south of Joplin
    • Missouri Highway Patrol will slow or stop traffic on I-49
  • On November 10-14, north- and southbound I-49 reduced to one lane between Route V and Route 175 during daytime hours
  • All I-49 lanes OPEN at night
  • Drivers should expect delays along with crews and equipment working close to traffic
  • No signed detour
  • Drivers urged to find alternate routes to avoid the work zone
  • Electronic message boards located near the planned road work will alert drivers approaching work zone
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
