TRAFFIC ALERT: New Weight Restriction Placed on Route 97/Capps Creek Bridge in Barry Co.

Barry County – Signs indicating a weight limit of 25 tons for single unit vehicles will be installed soon for a bridge on Missouri Route 97 over Capps Creek south of Pierce City, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

There is no reduced weight restriction for tractor trailers on this bridge.

The new load posting came about during the department’s regular bridge inspection process to analyze load limitations, which have been updated per Federal Highway Administration guidance.

The bridge is rated as poor and was built in 1953. The new weight limit will be in place until the bridge is replaced in 2026.

Previously, there was no posted load limit on this bridge.

Approximately 900 vehicles travel across the structure each day.
