MoDOT TRAFFIC ALERT: Nighttime Traffic Slowdowns/Stops on I-44 in Springfield, October 7-10

Where/When:

  • Westbound I-44 between Chestnut Expressway and County Road 127 in Springfield
    • 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Tuesday & Wednesday nights, October 7 and 8
  •  Eastbound I-44 between Glenstone Avenue and County Road 127 in Springfield
    • 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Thursday & Friday nights, October 9 and 10

What: Contractor crews will install five girders for the Melville Bridge. Girders will be installed at night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. October 7-10. During the installation process, the Greene County Sheriff Department will slow traffic on I-44 for up to 11 minutes at a time. This work is part of the Forward 44: Melville Road Bridge Replacement Project.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Westbound I-44 between Chestnut Expressway and County Road 127 nighttime traffic slowdowns/stops at night on October 7 and 8
    • Kansas Expressway and Glenstone Avenue on-ramps to westbound I-44 CLOSED for safety reasons
    • Greene County Sheriff Department will slow or stop traffic on westbound I-44 for up to 11 minutes
  • Eastbound I-44 between Glenstone Avenue and County Road 127 nighttime traffic slowdowns/stops at night on October 9 and 10
    • Chestnut Expressway and West Bypass on-ramps to eastbound I-44 CLOSED for safety reasons
    • Greene County Sheriff Department will slow or stop traffic on eastbound I-44 for up to 11 minutes
  • Melville Road (Farm Road 127) Bridge over I-44 CLOSED
    • Melville Road detour routes include: West Bypass (Route 160), Kearney Street (Route 744), Kansas Expressway (Route 13), Norton Road
    • Drivers will have access to entrances at either end of the Melville Road bridge, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
  • Norton Road Open
  • Eastbound I-44 is Open in two 12-foot lanes
  • Westbound I-44 is Open to one 12-foot lane during nighttime hours and two 12-foot lanes during daytime hours
  • No signed detours; drivers are urged to find alternate routes
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers to work zones and inform the public when there are reduced speeds and traffic delays
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closures/traffic impacts
