MoDOT to close WB I-44 under I-270 next weekend for bridge repair

ST. LOUIS – Drivers who use westbound Interstate 44 under Interstate 270 will need to find alternate routes next weekend, as crews will close all westbound lanes of the interstate, as well as the ramp from northbound I-270 to westbound I-44 for bridge repairs.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will close all westbound lanes on I-44 between Exit 276 and the Meramec River to make these repairs, as well as the ramp from northbound I-270 to WB I-44 starting Friday, September 26 at 10 p.m.  The ramp from southbound I-270 to westbound I-44 and the ramp from westbound Route 366 to northbound I-270 will remain open, but there will be no access to westbound I-44 from westbound Route 366.

To detour around ramp closure, drivers can use westbound Route 30, northbound Route 141 and get back onto westbound I-44. The detour for westbound I-44 and the westbound Route 366 ramp is to continue northbound on I-270, exit at Dougherty Ferry (Exit 8), cross over the interstate ramp and head southbound on I-270 to the ramp for westbound I-44.

During the closure, crews will remove and replace a girder damaged by an oversized load in July.

When lanes open on Monday, September 29 by 5 a.m., one lane will still remain closed on northbound I-270 over I-44 after the exit ramp from northbound I-270 to eastbound I-44. The westbound I-44 exit ramp also will remain open, but with a reduced exit lane length. Additional work is required before the girder repair is completed.  Additional details on that work will be shared when it is determined.

After this closure, drivers should still anticipate slow traffic in this area, especially during evening rush periods.  They should consider alternate routes or allowing extra time. Drivers can also check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for up-to-date traffic and travel info at: http://traveler.modot.org/map/.
